Liderados pelo falecido David McComb, os Triffids foram uma das melhores bandas australianas dos anos 80. Estrearam-se em 1983 com "Treeless Plain" mas o reconhecimento só surgiu com o terceiro álbum, em 1986; "Born Sandy Devotional". Esta bela, mas quase desconhecida, obra prima foi agora reeditada em cd para os velhos fãs redescobrirem.

NEW YORK DOLLS - ONE DAY IT WILL PLEASE US TO REMEMBER EVEN THIS

Morrissey implorou e eles acederam, deram um concerto que esgotou, decidiram dar outro, o resultado foi o mesmo e não pararam mais e gravaram mesmo um álbum novo três décadas depois do último trabalho. Tal como os Television estão também entre as lendas responsáveis pela explosão do punk durante a segunda metade dos anos 70 do século passado. As influências estavam todas lá, até o visual era descaradamente parecido com os dos Stones. Quando se formaram no início da década de setenta eram; Johnny Thunders na guitarra, Sylvain Sylvain veio para a guitarra, David Johansen como vocalista, Arthur "Killer" Kane no baixo e Billy Murcia na bateria, que viria a falecer poucos meses depois ao sofucar na sequência de um desmaio provocado por um cocktail de álcool e drogas, Jerry Nolan seria o substituto de Murcia. Em 1973 sai o álbum de estreia "The New York Dolls" segue-se no ano seguinte "Too Much Too Soon". Nesse mesmo ano contratam o Malcolm Mclaren, o famoso manager que transformou os Pistols em vedetas. O glam rock ainda era moda em Inglaterra e o visual andrógino da banda fez história vindo mais tarde influenciar bandas de Heavy Metal como Motley Crue ou Guns and Roses. Em 1975 Thunders e Nolan saem para se juntarem a Richard Hell, também acabadinho de sair dos Television para criarem os The Heartbreakers. Sempre amigos seguiram caminhos paralelos e morreram ambos em 1991. Thunders já sofria de leucemia mas a causa de morte foi a perigosa combinação de metadona com álcool, alguns meses depois falecia Nolan vitimado por meningite. Com a saida de thunders e Nolan a banda separa-se e cada um segue a sua carreira a solo. Em 2004 os 3 sobreviventes; Sylvain, Johansen e Arthur Kane foram convidados por Morrissey para tocarem no Meltdown Festival, foi um sucesso. Mas poucos meses depois Arthur Kane falecia vitimado por leucemia. Agora em 2006 Johansen e Sylvain regressam com o terceiro álbum e uma nova formação.

Há mais de uma década que o homem não gravava nada de novo, pois parece que o Mr Television, Tom Verlaine, se passou e gravou logo dois álbuns:

AROUND - É o menos interessante dos dois, é um conjunto de instrumentais. A genial guitarra de Verlaine viaja por ambientes africanos, a roçando também um pouco de folk e de blues.

SONGS AND OTHER THINGS - Este disco não será própriamente uma obra de arte, mas é um dos melhores álbuns a solo de verlaine. Acho que os fãs de Television vão adorar, quem não conhece aconselho que ouçam Marquee Moon, o histórico disco de estreia da banda datado de 1977.

Quem também está de volta é outra das bandas que encantaram a minha geração. Kim Gordon e companhia estão mais velhinhos, talvez já não tenham a pica dos anos 80 e 90 mas amadureceram muito bem e regressam com um excelente álbum.

Estes sim deviam ter ido ao Rock In Rio

BLACK SABBATH

Corria o glorioso ano de 1969, quando quatro jovens amigos fartos de veram a sua banda confundida com outra com o mesmo nome decidiram mudar de Hearth para Black Sabbath. O nome foi escolhido a partir do título de um livro do escritor ocultista Dennis Wheatley.
Tony Iommi-guitarra, John "Ozzy" Osbourn-voz, William "Bill" Ward-bateria e Terence "Geezer" Butler formavam então os Black Sabath. Em 1970 lançavam o seu álbum de estreia "Black Sabbath", mas foi com ao segundo, "Paranoid", que a banda atingiu o estrelato graças a temas como "Paranoid" ou Iron Man, este último foi recentemente eleito pelo canal VH1 como a melhor música de Heavy Metal de sempre. Segiu-se "Master of Reality" o álbum da banda que eu mais gosto, "Volume4" e "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" de 1973. A banda cedo cultivou um grande culto à sua volta há quem os considere os pais do heavy metal, não sei se serão, mas muitos subgéneros se calhar hoje não existiriam. Com os seus temas sempre a versar o ocultismo são com toda a certeza os criadores do rock gótico: "My name is Lucifer/Please take my hand" (N.IB., Black Sabath 1970). Em 1978 Ozzy sai da banda para formar os Blizzard of Ozz. Ronnie James Dio toma o lugar de Ozzy e lançam "Heaven and Hell", para grande surpresa os fãs aceitam bem o novo vocalista e o disco é um sucesso, o mesmo não acontece com o seguinte, "Mob Rules" que é um flop (ainda assim gosto mais que Heaven and Hell) e Dio sai da banda para dar lugar ao "ex-actual-vocalista" dos Deep Purple Ian Guillan. A banda vai sobrevivendo, mudando de vocalistas e lançando vários a´lbuns mas já sem a mistica de outrora.
Em 1998 dá-se a tão aguardada reunião de Ozzy com o resto da banda para gravarem um álbum ao vivo a que deram o nome de "Reunion".
Com quase 40 anos de carreira os Sabbath são hoje uma das mais respeitadas bandas entre os amantes do rock e do heavy metal e parecem não querer parar por aqui.

Os festivais continuam a mexer e todos os dias chegam novidades, parece que Vilar de mouros este ano vale a pena: Xutos, Moonspell, Cradle of Filth, Sepultura, os velhinhos Durutti Column e Stranglers, os Datsuns e Sepultura. Não esqueço aque foi lá que vi o Robert Plant por duas vezes, bem munido de uma colecção de t-shirts de LED ZEPPELIN.

Estreia hoje nos cinemas um biopic sobre os últimos dias de uma das maiores lendas do Rock, Brian Jones. Brian foi o simbolo da decadência de um génio, um homem de excessos que deixou que a vida louca de sexo drogas e Rock n' Roll tomassem conta dele. este filme pretende reconstruir o que se poderá ter passado na fatídica piscina onde o músico foi encontrado morto.

DOIS ICONES DO PANTEÃO DO ROCK, BRIAN JONES E JIMI HENDRIX

Nascido a 28 de Fevereiro de 1942, começou ainda muito jovem a tocar saxofone em bandas de jazz e a cantar no coro. O adolescente Brian não era no entanto nenhum menino de coro, e aos 20 anos já tocava com Alexis Corner, um dos pais do blues em Inglaterra. Foi aí que Keith Richards o conheceu, apresentou-o a Mick Jagger e assim nasciam os ROLLING STONES. A viragem da década de sessenta foi fatal para as grandes estrelas do Rock, foi Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison e a 3 de Julho de 1969 foi encontrado morto na sua piscina pela sua namorada Anna Wolen e pelo seu amoigo Frank Thourogood. Até hoje as causas da morte permanecem misteriosas; foi uma mistura explosiva de drogas? um ataque de asma enquanto nadava? Ou teria sido Brian assassinado?
